As AI continues to push the limits of content creation, the organization faces crucial questions about consent, privacy, and the implications of blurring real and AI-generated imagery.

As artificial intelligence becomes a part of your design process, it’s shaping how we learn and interact with information. It’s a call to action for LX Designers to reimagine how we create experiences; it’s no longer about traditional reading, or passively watching a video, it’s about engaging with content in a way that is authentic, personalised, and interactive. As you design for current and future students, it’s integral to consider what information they engage with and how they interact to inform your design. The three examples below are experiences I am sharing with you, and I invite you to think about how people around you are engaging with content and rethink how you design.

Have you ever been a virtual participant and not be acknowledged? Or, have you been a virtual participant only to log in and not have a way of connecting with your peers? Or, have you been a virtual participant and wanting to engage, but not having the confidence, or felt the face to face contingent was more valued. Our educational landscape has changed and so too must our teaching practices regardless if it is for education or professional purposes. We have shifted from face to face, to online, to hybrid, to hyflex. No longer is it enough to have participants watch a presentation, or watch a lecture, and then engage with the LMS, it is about participation, active engagement, providing opportunities for a two way interaction.

In the rapidly evolving world of education technology, the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has sparked a full spectrum of emotions - from denial and resistance to acceptance and enthusiasm. As AI continues to play a significant role in the design of learner experiences, some designers, accustomed to traditional methods, might find themselves traversing the emotional path defined by the Kübler-Ross model, better known as the five stages of grief.

If the alignment problem is the challenge to ensure AI systems behave as they were intended too and ensure they're aligned to human value and goals (Christian, 2020); how do you as an educator ensure they are appropriate for your educational context?

Have you ever considered how the AI tools you are using could potentially cause harm if not aligned to human values? How can you ensure you are using tools responsibly and are aware of AI that isn't aligned to these values? The alignment problem highlights this.

As an LX Designer, this is something we are required to do all of the time; to take complex ideas and present the ideas in a clear, and organised way that is meaningful for learners. To do this, we need to understand what does the learner need to know, what do they need to do and how can they demonstrate their knowledge through scaffolded activities. In doing so, we are creating an aligned learner experience. If this is not done, learners can be left confused and unable to grasp foundational concepts, so it is important to understand constructive alignment.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of facilitating a workshop for the IDTX community around designing learner experiences. It was great to see such a good turnout with many participating on the mural board.

I have heard many discussions around ChatGPT and it being used interchangeably with AI. Whilst it is leading the discourse of AI in education at the moment, it is important that you realise that ChatGPT is another tool, a powerful one at that. To understand why it is leading the discourse, lets take a look at how quickly the uptake of ChatGPT was.

As an LX Designer, it is up to you to be able to understand AI, and the different tools that use the underpinning technology, including ChatGPT so you can leverage it in your role rather than think that it is going to replace you. But how do you do this?

Since cyberpsychology studies the impact of technology on human behaviour, it has the potential to help us to understand how technology can be used to improve learning outcomes. With the current discussion around ChatGPT and its' implications, we are seeing how technology can really have a detrimental impact on the teaching and learning process. By understanding cyberpsychology more, we could better understand how students learn in an online environment, or how it can be used to foster collaboration, creativity and/or problem-solving skills.

Podcasts have become one of the most popular ways to consume content. Over the years, podcasts have been growing in popularity, and more and more people are talking about creating a podcast. Although it is exciting, it can also be very daunting at the same time as it can take a lot of time and effort to create a successful podcast, but the rewards are well worth it. After participating in four days of online workshops with Stanford University, there were some key strategies that I learned from these facilitators that I will implement moving forward.

Data privacy is more relevant than ever and it is your decision on what information you want to expose to others, isn't it? Probably not. When you access a website there is a cookie message; have you ever just blindly accepted without giving it a second thought? Or, have you ever thought, I wonder what happens if I decline, but accept anyway? I know I have. I am going to explain to you why you should never just blindly accept all cookies all of the time.

In a connected world, technology can be used to support the pedagogy of care – making sure learners are supported both academically and emotionally. One way that technology can support the pedagogy of care is by providing opportunities for students to connect with their peers and educators outside of the traditional classroom settings.
